Testing of compounds on various mice and rat tumors.

1. Sarcoma 37 of mice: For each test (investigation of a dose), 20 experimental animals were used. Each received a subcutaneous injection of 0.05 ml of a tumor mash taken from a mouse with a 7to 10-day old sarcoma. For control purposes, 10 animals remained untreated, while in the case of the others the product under investigation (at the maximum tolerated dose) was injected on 5 successive days starting 2 hours after the transplantation. On the 10th day all animals were sacrificed, and the dissected tumors were weighed. The effect of a substance was evaluated statistically by the weight of the respective tumor on the 10th day. At the same time, the change in body weight after the transplantation as well as the number of animals which died before the test was completed were taken as a basis in evaluating the toxicity
